A vacation in the Hamptons…..sounds like it would give you bragging rights at the office. But before you book, decide if you want to stay at an established hostelry, a picturesque Bed and Breakfast or a private home, rented fully-furnished with rates that vary by the season. Once you decide the “what” and “where”, the “when” and for “how much?” are the next steps. Prepare to spend a princely sum for the privilege of occupying someone else’s home for a while. Also, just as you are assessing the Holidays’ damage to your credit rating is the prime time to be looking and booking your next summer’s vacation rental.
Both local and Manhattan chain realtors are your best bet. It is also possible to rent directly from homeowners, although the choicer homes are in the hands of rental agents. Prices vary widely due to size of the home, its location, amenities and the season. Expect to pay at least $3,500 weekly upwards of “the sky’s the limit”.
And what are your plans once you are there? Basking on the beach? Touring the wineries? Attending local events? Antiquing? Your budget and timeframe will help determine what area you choose. Remember too, waterfront or beachfront homes command the highest rental prices. But in the off-season…..these may be more in line with your budget. |
