Thoughts of a “Hamptons Wedding” evoke images of dreamy-eyed young women and parents on the verge of fiscal breakdown. Face it, this is the stuff dreams and cash are made of. So, while there may not be a wedding in the Hamptons for every budget, there certainly are
avenues to go down that are imaginative if not downright thrifty.
Since most brides do not reside there, a wedding in the Hamptons is a destination wedding. This requires lodging to be arranged at a local hotel or motel, and a hall, resort, church, chapel; in short a location for the ceremony and reception. Lacking wealthy relatives with a country manse, an increasingly popular way to go is to rent one of the local estates or upscale homes for the wedding weekend and put up the bride, groom and their parties under one roof. This is also far less expensive than a hotel or resort, often, surprisingly with more amenities! Another option is to take over an entire Bed and Breakfast hotel making for a memorable time for all. Another option, for Long Island brides, is to forgo a house rental and hire a limo to take her from her home to the church or hall.
Vows? Here again, the choices are varied. Why not take your vows at a vineyard? Long Island’s east end is renowned for its wineries and its wines. Many offer wedding services including a chapel and private reception. This option certainly makes it easy to select the dinner wines! Yet another option is the sunrise service at the ocean followed by a wedding breakfast at a B & B, restaurant or resort.
Upscale florists, too, abound. Here, too, ask to see their wedding portfolio when shopping for your special day. An inexpensive way to go is to contact the local farm stands the East End is known for, asking for their seasonal floral services using local produce and flowers. |
